If your child is between 3 to 5 months of age and has developed a habit of crying then you must beware. This might be due to the fact that your child has become colicky. Your child might not be necessarily colic but you need to check out the symptoms to assure yourself. If your child is really colic, then you need to give him the right treatment.
Firstly you need to check how your child cries. If your child is colicky, then he will cry persistently and continuously. Basically you need to look for 3 Cs while your child cries which are- constantly, considerably and consistently. Besides, the colicky babies cry for about 3 hours while in the worst case they can cry for about 5 hours at a stretch without stopping.
It is also important to keep an eye over your child’s movements. If your child is colicky, then he will suffer from severe pain in the abdomen. Thus your child’s movement will be an indication of what your child is undergoing. Check out for necessary signs. If your child pulls his legs towards his abdomen and squeezes them and if your child holds his legs and hands as well cries loudly, then this is an indication that your child is surely colicky. Even if your child clenches or holds his fists tightly and hits them then this is an indication of the severe pain he might be facing.
Your baby will even find difficulty in sleeping the entire night due to the pain he might be facing. The baby might get irritable and difficult to handle. The baby won’t be at ease and comfort due to the suffering it is undergoing. There will also be other gestures like he won’t open his mouth to eat anything.
Your child may also undergo hormonal changes. Thus you will need to take him to a child specialist. He will state that the reason of your baby to be colic might be due to the hormonal changes. But in addition to the above stated fact, the babies also get colicky due to incompatibility with the cow’s milk or powdered milk.
In fact many a times a child gets colicky due to the family environment. Sometimes such a condition is also caused due to the behaviour of the family members. Sometimes the family members are too excited or aggressive. Such type of behaviour is also one of the reasons that can influence the child and make him colicky. In fact any sudden change in the environment for example even if your family becomes calm and peaceful will also affect the child.
So I think now you might have become aware of the symptoms which can indicate that your child is colicky. Thus you should be cautious if you see your child crying and immediately check if there is something unusual about it. Taking the right steps will soothe your child and give him relief in case he is colicky.
