How to tell if it is really colic?

My 4 wk old daughter is very fussy. The dr changed her formula to Alimentum because she said she has colic behavior. Well from what I’ve read about colic, the babies usually cry around the same times every day. My baby has some days were she won’t fuss at all and then some days she fusses off and on all day. Like yesterday she cried from 2:30pm until 7pm and then again from 3am until 8am this morning. But some days she will cry from 9-11pm and some days not at all. Does anyone think this is symptomatic of colic or could there be some other issue? I give her mylicon drops and sometimes they work and sometimes not.

Colic is defined as unexplained crying for at least 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for at least 3 weeks. If that describes your daughter, then, yes, she has colic.
Does she cry even when you hold her and nurse her? Then it’s *not* colic; it’s loneliness. Colic is *always* crying for no obvious reason.
